The filing due date for the IRS Form 990 can now be automatically extended for six months. The IRS Form 8868, Application for Automatic Extension of Time to File an Exempt Organization Return, has been updated for the six month extension request. Previously, an automatic three month extension was granted, with an optional second additional three month extension being available as well. This change removes the need for that optional second extension.
