Who did this pandemic effect? People. Your people. Every one of them have had different experiences and yet they all can relate to each other one way or another. It is time to bring your people back together through helping them to reconnect again. And since we now have the word “hybrid” and the term “work from home” as part of our workplace vocabulary, how do you do this? Through revisiting and reinvigorating your culture. As a leader, it is time to step up and lead. Let’s take a look as to why this can’t be ignored and why it is time to take action.
Reason #1: Your people need certainty.
We have all just experienced a global pandemic. And if you are reading this, you are one of the lucky ones who have survived. Most have been living in fear, limbo, and uncertainty for the last two years. “What the heck is going on?” is something we have ALL said to ourselves at one point during this pandemic. It is imperative to bring your people from a place of uncertainty to a place of certainty so that they can focus and feel stable again.
Reason #2: Your people need to reconnect to each other.
We are emotional human beings and crave human connection. Some of your people are working remotely, some hybrid, some in office. With all of these different types of work modalities you have to find a way for your people to stay connected- not just through work projects, but through empathy, shared experiences, and just good old-fashioned caring about each other.
Reason #3: Your people need to be reconnected to the mission of your company.
As I mentioned earlier, you need to help your people have focus again, which will help bring them both certainty and connection. When was the last time you inspired your people with your company’s mission? Do you even have a mission? Is it a statement or something the people in your organization live out every day? People feel best when they are connected to something greater than themselves. It’s time to bring your mission to the forefront again.
Reason #4: Your people need to feel happy and excited to be working for your organization.
You want them to feel happy whether they are opening up their computer at home to work or coming into the office. Think about how you present yourself to the world when you are happy. That positive energy is contagious! Don’t you want your people showing up smiling and having a positive attitude? Think about what that will do to your culture.
Reason #5: Your people need to feel and be productive.
Ultimately you want your people to be productive- and they want that for themselves as well. How do you inspire them to show up and be their best selves in order to be productive? You give them certainty, you help them to reconnect to each other and to your company’s mission, and you help provide them with culture experiences that make them happy and proud to be an important part of your organization.
Reinvigorating your culture is not something to think about doing one day. The time is now. Caring about your people is the foundation of moving your company forward. “Clients do not come first. Employees come first. If you take care of your employees, they will take care of the clients.”– Richard Branson. So go out their and create positive experiences for your employees and your organization.
