The U.S. Department of Education has released information regarding a grant to assist local education agencies (LEAs) who have been impacted by community violence. The grant, Project Prevent Grant Program, will award more than $6 million to LEAs to provide resources to address threats and ensure a safe learning environment. The grant program entails working with community-based organizations to assess the threats and develop strategies to lessen the impact.
The electronic application has been made available starting August 19, 2022 [https://oese.ed.gov/files/2022/08/2022-84.184M-Application-Package.pdf]. The deadline for sending the application is October 3, 2022, and the deadline for intergovernmental review is December 2, 2022.
The project period is up to 60 months. The maximum award will not exceed $600,000 for a single budget period of 12 months. Each award will be granted per year for up to 5 years. The estimated number of awards is 10-13.
The Department will hold a pre-application workshop via webinar for prospective applicants. The date and times are as follows:
